The 2023-2024 supplement includes a number of changes such as:
- Wisconsin Court of Appeals opinions discussing jurors’ subjective and objective bias
- A 2022 Wisconsin Supreme Court opinion discussing whether the circuit court abused its discretion in denying a defendant’s request for a mistrial
- A 2023 Wisconsin Supreme Court opinion considering whether a defendant’s Fifth Amendment rights were violated by a statement by the prosecutor in closing argument
- A 2022 Wisconsin Supreme Court opinion in which the court discussed a trial judge’s ex parte meeting with a juror
The 2021-2022 supplement includes a number of changes, such as the following:
- Special procedures have been put into place because of the COVID-19 pandemic
- In a 2020 opinion, the Wisconsin Supreme Court discussed whether a juror’s uncertainty on impartiality constitutes bias
- In a 2021 opinion, the Wisconsin Supreme Court determined whether remedial sanctions can be imposed when a party’s contempt of court has ended
- In several published and unpublished opinions, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals considered jury-instruction issues
All statutory and case-law citations in the book have been updated.
The 2019-20 revision includes a number of changes such as:
- Use of technology in court proceedings, from video playback to proposed jury instructions
- A 2019 Wisconsin Supreme Court order that allows the verbatim record to be made by stenographic reporting, voice reporting, monitored digital audio recording, or other means approved by the director of state courts
- A 2018 Wisconsin Supreme Court case modifying prior case law regarding the lifting of stays for involuntary medication orders
- A 2019 Wisconsin Supreme Court opinion clarifying what qualifies as a special proceeding, which affects whether an order granting or denying that application is considered a final order even though the related action remains pending
- A 2019 Wisconsin Court of Appeals decision discussing whether a party must comply with the literal language of Wis. Stat. § 806.06(4), requiring judgments to be perfected within 30 days
