Attorney Security 2023

Product ID: CA3474W
Presented By: State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE

This program is an excerpt from Advanced Skills & Techniques for Family Law Practice 2022

Self-care

Legal disputes are inherently adversarial and can involve very high stakes for the parties involved. For those in the legal profession, threats and violent behavior sometimes come with the already emotionally charged territory. In a 2019 survey of State Bar of Wisconsin members, approximately half the respondents reported that they had received threats or been victims of physical assault.1 Anecdotal evidence and statistics may not reflect your own experiences, but there’s never a bad time to learn more about maximizing your personal safety.

Enter Attorney Security, where Ann Olson, a Policy Analyst with the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s Office of Court Operations will outline simple steps that you can take to help protect yourself, your coworkers, and your family from potential harm. You’ll examine:

  • What the Supreme Court Rules require when it comes to courthouse security
  • Measures implemented by the state and counties to increase courthouse security
  • Examples of recent security threats and incidents
  • How attorneys can support courthouse security
