Title IX prohibits discrimination based on sex at public elementary and secondary schools, as well as federally funded colleges and universities. Under Title IX, educational institutions are obligated to provide equal opportunities for students – regardless of gender – to enjoy the benefits, opportunities, and treatment provided for athletic teams. At Equal Athletic Opportunity Under Title IX, Hannah L. Chin will guide you through new resources provided by the Department’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) to help school officials determine whether their institution is satisfying its duty to provide equal athletic opportunities.
Come away with a better understanding of the types of situations that implicate Title IX concerns and strategies for evaluating a school’s athletic program. You’ll also receive tips on assessing the validity of athletic scholarships and financial assistance to athletes.
