Voters Have Spoken: Administering Wisconsin Elections After the New Constitutional Amendments 2024

Product ID: CA3662R8
Presented By: State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE

Election enigmas

At the 2024 spring election in Wisconsin, voters approved two new amendments to the state constitution impacting election law. One amendment puts an end to private election grants, which were used by several Wisconsin communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The second amendment mandates that only election officials can perform “any task in the conduct of an election.” But who is considered an “election official” and what does “any task” encompass?  What impact will the new amendments have on conducting elections in Wisconsin?

At Voters Have Spoken: Administering Wisconsin Elections After the New Constitutional Amendments, Madison City Attorney Michael Haas will address lingering questions and potential issues as clerks prepare for the next round of 2024 elections – including the November general election. You’ll explore:

  • The origins of the referendum questions
  • Whether the amendments will impact voters and how elections are conducted
  • Outstanding legal questions that need to be addressed
