Understanding the Wisconsin Retirement System 2024

Product ID: CA3596R3
Presented By: State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE

Retirement done right

The Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) is a cost-sharing public employee retirement system that provides pension benefits for state and local government employees. Although the number of public employees in Wisconsin has decreased, there are still more than 275,000 people who work in the public sector.1 This means that family and estate planning lawyers in the Badger State need to understand the ins and outs of the WRS.

At Understanding the Wisconsin Retirement System, join Certified Divorce Financial Analyst Grant G. Zielinski for a comprehensive overview of the WRS and its complexities. He’ll discuss:

  • The types of benefits available under the WRS
  • Factors considered in determining benefits
  • Calculating the current and retirement value of a WRS account
  • Dividing a WRS account in a divorce
