Handling Your First Temporary Order Hearing in Family Court 2024

Product ID: CA3622R8
Presented By: State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE

Family law first steps

Taking on your first divorce case can be an intimidating experience, especially since family court procedures differ from those in other areas of practice. After you file a summons and petition for divorce, what comes next? Who gets to stay in the marital home and who gets the car? Do both parties share custody and placement of the children? Who is responsible for maintaining health insurance if both parties are on one plan? Divorces in Wisconsin can take anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. Because answers to these questions can’t wait until the divorce is final, they’ll need to be addressed at a temporary order hearing in family court.

Develop the confidence you need with help from veteran family attorney Emily Wilson at Handling Your First Temporary Order Hearing in Family Court. You’ll gain a better understanding of the temporary hearing process with insights on:

  • The purpose of a temporary order hearing
  • How to request a temporary order
  • What will be addressed at the hearing
  • Potential evidentiary issues that may arise
  • Offers of proof and exhibits
  • Best practices for preparation
  • Presenting your arguments to the court commissioner
