Motorized electric transportation has become an increasingly popular way to get around as part of the “vehicle sharing” revolution. E-bikes and e-scooters boast a lower carbon footprint than traditional transportation and many cities have embraced shared mobility. But as the popularity of e-transportation vehicles rises, so do injuries and deaths associated with their use.

The law has not kept up with the technology or the demand for e-transportation, leaving open many questions about liability and insurance coverage when injuries occur. Jay A. Urban is a founding member and partner of the firm Urban & Taylor S.C. with offices in Milwaukee and Tomah, WI.
