Jessa Nicholson Goetz is the founding and managing partner of Nicholson, Gansner & Otis, SC, a boutique litigation firm. She practices criminal defense trial litigation with a focus on sensitive crime and violent felony defense.
Nicholson served as the coordinator for the Dane County Criminal Defense Project from 2009-2015. Since 2017, she’s assisted in creating the Women in Criminal Courts (WICC) association of Dane County. Two of her high-profile cases were covered by the New York Times, and she has been quoted as an expert in the Wall Street Journal. She has also been featured in the Wisconsin State Journal and the Capital Times.
She has won two Hanson Memorial Advocate’s Prize awards from the Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, which are only given when a defense attorney receives a full acquittal in a homicide case. Nicholson has also twice been the recipient of the Dane County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association Warrior Award given for outstanding work in the field of criminal defense.
