The 2023–24 supplement includes a number of changes such as:
- A 2022 Wisconsin Supreme Court decision on whether, for purposes of determining criminal penalties, courts may count a prior revocation for refusal to submit to a warrantless blood test
- Updated federal regulations governing driving training for a commercial driver license (CDL), and revised federal penalties for actions against CDL privileges
- Increased penalties for certain reckless driving and operating-while-intoxicated (OWI) offenses, and new and revised information about the surcharges that courts must impose when they order a fine for reckless driving or OWI
- A new statutory subsection addressing what a court must consider in order to impose bail in cases of OWI causing homicide or great bodily harm
The 2021–22 revision includes a number of changes, such as:
- Updates to the laws and regulations governing the use of ignition-interlock devices
- Recent Wisconsin Supreme Court cases that address a defendant’s ability to obtain relief from prior convictions based on the argument that the original court lacked jurisdiction, and that consider whether the argument is properly one of jurisdiction or competency
- A revised discussion of the penalty structure for operating-while-intoxicated (OWI) offenses, including two new Practice Tips related to lifetime driver-license revocations
- A 2021 Wisconsin Supreme Court decision analyzing the constitutionality of the statutory provisions that allow law enforcement officers to request that chemical testing be performed on a person who is unconscious or otherwise incapable of withdrawing implied consent
- Statutory amendments that affect how appeals from municipal court to circuit court are handled, and that modify a defendant’s ability to have a jury trial upon appeal from municipal court to circuit court in some cases
