The 2022-2023 supplement includes a number of changes, such as the following:
- The discussion of the exclusion or suppression of evidence has been expanded
- Several items have been added to the list of possible consequences of conviction in the Checklist for Advising the Client on the Plea Decision
- Chapter 7 now contains a Practice Tip regarding the use of witnesses at trial, in the wake of approval of the Marsy’s Law amendment to the Wisconsin Constitution
- The Wisconsin Supreme Court, in a 2022 opinion, considered the constitutionality of counting a prior refusal toward the graduated penalty in the operating-while-intoxicated guidelines
In addition, some web pages and online resources of the Wisconsin State Public Defender have been updated or moved.
The 2020-21 revision includes a number of changes such as:
- In 2020, voters approved an amendment to the Wisconsin Constitution that provides additional rights to crime victims.
- In 2019, the Wisconsin Supreme Court discussed whether the state has a duty to disclose evidence that is not within its exclusive possession and control.
- Some additional topics have been added for the client interview, including whether police body cameras were used, whether the client signed waiver-of-rights forms, and whether social media might provide evidence.
- The Wisconsin Supreme Court increased the rate of compensation in 2019 for private attorneys on cases assigned by rotation for time spent in court.
