Statehouse Rock: How to Read, Track, and Propose Legislation 2020

Product ID: CA3086R
Presented By: State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE

The road to passing a bill

You have an idea for a new law that will fix a troubling issue in your community. You sit down, draft a hypothetical bill, and submit it to the Wisconsin Legislative Reference Bureau (LRB) for review. That’s how it works, right?

The short answer? No. While the above efforts may be well-meaning, they’re a prime example of what NOT to do when advocating for new legislation. Statehouse Rock: How to Read, Track, and Propose Legislation will provide an overview of Wisconsin’s legislative process and discuss what you actually should do when trying to effect change at the legislative level.
