Product ID: CA3679R
Presented By: State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE

Co-produced with the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates

Voir dire? Voila!

While you won’t win a case at voir dire, it’s certainly possible to lose one there. Selecting the ideal jury is a skill best learned through experience. That’s why, for more than 30 years, State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE® has partnered with the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) to teach trial skills in a mock courtroom setting. How to Select a Jury: Demonstrations by Experienced Trial Lawyers is designed to showcase an array of voir dire styles and techniques employed by veteran trial lawyers.

You’ll witness jury selection in a dynamic mock trial format with Hon. Eugene A. Gasiorkiewicz presiding. Watch how attorneys for the plaintiff and defense handle jury selection using a variety of strategies and approaches. Gain first-hand insight as experienced practitioners describe their reasoning behind the questions they ask, the strikes they make, and why they may have done it all differently in another situation. Plus, you’ll have the rare opportunity to hear from the jury as they share their thoughts about the methods used and the questions asked by the attorneys.

As a woman drives down a county road on her way to pick up fast food, a truck driver is backing his tractor-trailer onto the same road at a very slow rate of speed. The two vehicles collide, resulting in serious injuries. The woman files suit alleging the truck driver was negligent and that the trucking company failed to properly train the driver. The driver and trucking company assert that the crash was caused by the plaintiff’s excessive speed and inattentive driving. The jury will be asked to allocate fault among the parties.

A limited number of complimentary parking spaces at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hall Parking Structure will be available to in-person seminar attendees. Overflow parking is available for $10 in the Wells Street Structure (on Wells Street between 12th and 13th streets).
