Abrielle Newman
Abrielle Newman is the Director and Supervising Attorney of Legal Action of Wisconsin’s nationally acclaimed Eviction Defense Project. Since stepping into this leadership role, she has supervised over 80 volunteer attorneys and students and helped represent more than 5,000 tenants facing eviction. Her practice focuses on housing justice, including trial and appellate litigation, and community-based advocacy. Abrielle chairs several firmwide initiatives and currently serves as the firm's Housing Law Priority Coordinator. Beyond that, Abrielle is active in statewide training and policy efforts to expand access to legal services, such as the State Bar Legal Assistance Committee and Public Interest Law Section (Secretary/Treasurer). She also serves as the Treasurer the Young Lawyers Division Board. Abrielle believes that the best way for young lawyers to establish themselves is through dedicated service to their community—pro bono work and other volunteer opportunities.
Outside of work, Abrielle currently serves Vice President of the Board of ArtWorks for Milwaukee and volunteers with a range of housing and food security organizations. She also volunteers consistently with the Marquette Volunteer Legal Clinics, providing pro bono legal services. Abrielle is the recipient of the 2024 Outstanding Young Lawyer Award and 2024 Association for Women Lawyers Pro Bono Award, and a proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School, Class of 2021.
